Krakatau Archipelago

 

Vacation Star | Krakatau Archipelago | Krakatau Archipelago (Rakata, Sertung, Panjang) is the remainder of the volcano island called Ancient Krakatau, has a diameter of 11 km and height of 2 km (listed in the Javanees Book of Kings) estimated erupted and divided into 3 clusters island around VI Century.


 

Krakatau emerged as an active volcano until it reaches a height of 830 meters with a diameter of 5 km.

Volcanic activity regularly starting in May to August 1883. First rose from the top which is preceded by a series of earthquakes and on 26 and 27 August 1883 eruptions devastating sounds up to 4500 km from the eruption, such as in South Australia, Ceylon and the Philippines.



At the time it happened very large tidal waves as high as 40 meters that devastated 295 villages with the victims of more than 36,000 people died, especially around Sunda Straits, Teluk Lampung Beach.

 

The material spewed approximately 18 cubic km, with flying debris reached a height of 80 km above sea level and resulted in total darkness for 22 hours. That's the origin formation of Krakatau Archipelago.
