Train Museum Sawahlunto


Vacation Star | Train Museum Sawahlunto | Construction of Railway from Padang to Sawahlunto started on July 6, 1889. Construction of railways aims to facilitate transportation of coal transportation from Sawahlunto to Emmahaven Port (Teluk Bayur), Padang.

 

Railway construction is divided into several stages. Railway from Aie island (Padang)-Padangpanjang completed July 12, 1891. Then, from Padangpanjang to Bukittinggi completed November 1, 1891. 

 
 

Next, Solok Railway was completed in July 1, 1892. While Railway of Solok-Muarokalaban simultaneously with the completion of the Railway from Padang to Telukbayur, October 1, 1892. While the Railway from Muarokalaban to Sawahlunto completed February 1, 1894. Due to declining coal production Sawahlunto since the 2000s, the activity of transporting coal by rail stops.

 

Given the history of train and coal mines are inextricably linked, then in 2005 the Government of Sawahlunto cooperation with PT. Kereta Api make Train Station Sawahlunto as Train Museum Sawahlunto, the second in Indonesia after Ambarawa.


Train Museum Sawahlunto has a collection of various train assets. Several series of locomotive from a different era and a miniature steam locomotive can be seen here. 

 

Hundreds of equipment that was used in the operation of trains in the past have been collected as a collection of Train Museum Sawahlunto .


Traveling in Sawahlunto-Muarokalaban through the tunnel along with almost 1 km can be done with the tourist train called Lori Wisata. Or to get around the old town not only on foot but also available the touring car that is ready to take tourists around the old town of Sawahlunto. Train Museum location is the same with location of mak Itam that is in the village of Teleng.
