Fort Malborough


Vacation Star | Fort Malborough | Marlborough is a sturdy fortress heritage building built in the 1713 UK until 1719 during the leadership of Governor Joseph Collet. The name of the fort was using the name of a British nobleman and hero, namely John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough I. The fort is considered the largest in Asia.
 

This heritage has great appeal because of its rarity. This fort was once the center of British colonial rule which controls Bengkulu province for about 140 years (1685-1825). Site Fortress Marlborough region is situated in a region with natural coastal attractions, ie beach Tread Padri. Thus providing a blend of natural and cultural attractions. Completeness of this area as a tourist attraction to be great potential to become the leading tourist attraction for the city of Bengkulu. Even more interesting is the use of official documents from the British government, based in Fort Malborough, including a document called SFR (Sumatra Factory Records). The work of this library can be a source of information that can provide attraction for foreign tourists as well as the archipelago. As one of the information from John Bastin is interesting that the Fort Marlborough had been left by the British government for nearly five years, namely in 1719-1724. Of course it's interesting to know more about who controls the Fort Marlborough during 1719-1724, and what actually happened during these five years. That information would contain a high historical value and is a valuable scientific resource. Joseph Collet in 1712 was appointed Deputy Governor, he asked permission to replace the fort York and build one new fort on a rock, a small hill overlooking the sea about 2 km from the fort York.

In the reign of Thomas Stamford Raffles in 1818-1824 Bengkulu became famous. In 1825 the British who controlled Bengkulu by the Dutch exchange, which controls Malaysia and Singapore.
The next Dutch fort occupies Malborough until World War II that eventually all areas of Sumatra, the Japanese army occupied until Japan surrendered in 1945. After the independence of Indonesia in 1945 the fort was used by the TNI and the police until 1970.


 

After the independence of Indonesia Bengkulu is one of the Residency in South Sumatra Province, new in 1968 Bengkulu province materialize into a stand-alone and separated from South Sumatra Province.

What is offered to the visitor attraction?
The visitors can see the greatness of colonial power in his time with building a great castle and is still maintained this completeness.
