Tabot Celebration

As previously described, the name "Ark" is derived from the Arabic word that is the Ark, which literally means the box or crate wood. In Bengkulu alone, this is a ritual ceremony Tabot day of mourning over the death of the Great Syaid Husien bin Ali bin Abi Talib, one of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson. Tabot ceremony in Bengkulu contain aspects of ritual and non ritual. Tabot ceremonies which are conducted every year by the Family Descendants Tabot a ritual procession interpreted as a symbol of struggle and a symbol to commemorate the death of Prophet Muhammad's grandson named Husien. 

 

The stages of the ritual procession is as follows:
1. Taking the Land (01-04 Muharam)

This ceremony took place on the night of 01 Muharram, which is approximately at 22.00 WIB. Land taken is land considered to contain magical value.

Therefore making the land must be done at a specific location, namely in places considered sacred by them. The location is only two places in the city of Bengkulu, namely:

The ceremony is described as a sign to the deliberations in the face of warfare, ceremony is equipped with offerings of red and white pulp, brown sugar, betel 7 Earring, 7 sticks of cigarettes, black coffee water, water serabot (ginger), pure cow's milk, sandalwood water and water basil, then offering dido'akan and left at the location of the land. 2. Sitting Penja (05 Muharam)

Penja is a palm-shaped object with a finger full of human fingers, therefore penja is also called fingers. Penja according Sipai family is believed to contain sacred objects of magical power, therefore it must be treated, washed with water flowers and lime juice (orange) each year. 3. Menjara (06-07 Muharam)

Menjara means mengandun (Bengkulu language) or visit with another family group went to beruji Dol (Dol ring race). Dol is a traditional musical instrument Bengkulu Malay community. 4. Meradai (06 Muharam)

5. Arak Penja

6. Arak Serban

8. Arak Gedang
